NUS should prioritize international students when it comes to on campus housing. Many of us quite literally have no other place to stay in Singapore aside from nus accommodation. If we don’t secure a dorm, we’re forced to find private housing, which, as most of you know, is far beyond budget for many international students.
I understand that some local students live far from campus, but even then, the commute is usually around 1.5 hours by MRT or bus—which, while not ideal, is still manageable. In contrast, international students have to travel across countries just to be here, and not having a place to stay once we arrive is incredibly stressful.
On top of that, international students pay higher tuition fees 😭😭 I really hope NUS starts to acknowledge our situation and prioritizes us more when allocating dorms. It's genuinely scary not knowing where you’ll live with the semester just around the corner.
