I went on a dinner with a fresh grad nurse to see if we were compatible for something serious. Very early on, she asked about my income, and I told her I make around 150k a year in investment banking.
She compared it to her ex, who apparently runs multiple businesses and earns around 500k annually, and implied that my income was on the lower side. When I asked about her own salary, she shared that she earns about 50k and is in nursing mainly for passion rather than financial reasons.
As the conversation went on, she talked about wanting a lifestyle that included things like a condo near her family and a luxury car, and seemed to expect her partner to fund that. She also referenced her ex owning high-end cars, suggesting those expectations were reasonable.
At that point, it became clear that our views on money, lifestyle, and responsibility didn’t align. I’m looking for something more balanced, where both people are grounded and realistic about what they expect and contribute, so I decided to end things there.
Did i miss out on a Gem?
