i just wanna give another opinion on the whole CS wages vs passion discussion.
majority of the people probably see a job as something to put food on the table. whether it aligns with their values or passion is probably something secondary so i don't blame anyone for picking a course that pays handsomely.
that being said, the issue with CS students and their wage demands is that they are pegging their expectations to a situation that no longer exists (tech hiring boom from covid to 1-2 years after) back then, supply for skilled SWEs were lower and couldn't meet the overwhelming demand, which was what inflated their wages. and before deciding to pursue CS, they didnt do their due diligence and assumed that this boom would go on forever.
but it seems quite apparent to me that this situation was a bubble and wages would eventually revert back to normalcy when demand falls back down.
and like another commenter mentioned, most jobs that pay well either 1. require long work hours 2. regulated by some degree of knowledge or expertise. CS is neither of them since coding can literally be done by anyone remotely around the world -- there's no differentiation whatsoever.
so given the perks of high wages and (comparatively) better working culture, obviously a whole group of naive students would rush in thinking of benefiting from this gold rush too. obviously with such a sudden surge in supply, wages would fall. basic economics
but please, do your due diligence. those salaries thrown around during the boom are a thing of the past and you have to acknowledge that, if not youre gonna be constantly barking up the wrong tree.
if you really wanted a job where you trade your skills and time for a high salary, perhaps you should have considered tried and proven paths like law, dentistry or even banking.
