Local students prioritized for housing over international students with no home here. Inconsistency in housing allocation questioned.

Just wondering why is it that housings are prioritised for local students even though it just takes at most 1.5hs to travel from else-where (not saying that it's not far but still acceptable) whereas international students who have no home/house here are often not given housing? It doesnt really make sense tbh because when SG people go over-seas, they are often provided housings for their duration of studies.

what makes you think locals are prioritised? and Singapore is a small country, obviously we prioritise our own people…you chose to come here so you have to deal with it

Yo man I’m also an international student
Locals get more housing opportunities bc they contribute more to the hostel.
Most OGLs/IGLs are locals
Tbh from my observation most of the intl students I know spent their first year in NUS hostel quietly; did not join interest groups/ gatherings; only play with their own ppl
Then why would they be prioritized during next years application
