I’m 27 this year. Many of my friends are getting married and having children, while I feel like I might stay single for the rest of my life.

I’m turning 30 before I know it. I have a bachelor’s degree, I’m fairly average-looking, and my family bought me a car when I was in university. Yet, I’m still single.

Whenever I meet my family or friends, the topic that comes up most is, “It’s time for you to get married. Don’t wait too long, or all the good ones will be taken.”

The truth is, when I was around 23, I had already realised that I probably wouldn’t get married young. Part of it is my personality. To my friends, I’m sincere and easy to get along with, but only I know who I really am. I’m not exceptionally outstanding—I’m just an ordinary person trying to find my place in this vast world.

People often tell me, “Don’t set your standards so high. Stop being so picky.” But it isn’t that my standards are too high. As I’ve grown older, I’ve become more mature and more clear-headed. I’m no longer someone who would burst into tears just because someone says, “I like you.”

Adult love is rarely simple—it comes with weighing compatibility, values, and practical realities. Love at first sight can happen, but even after that initial spark, people still take the time to understand and evaluate one another.

To me, marrying later in life is not a compromise. It’s not something to regret, and it certainly doesn’t mean being “left over.” It’s simply choosing not to settle for something that doesn’t feel right.
