I may sound ungrateful because I managed to land a Management Associate role straight out of university, but I genuinely hate the fact that I have to work.
Everyone talks about how lucky you are to get into a graduate programme, the career progression, the rotations, the exposure, the salary, all of that. And yeah, I know objectively it’s a good opportunity.
But deep down, I just don’t give a shit about climbing the corporate ladder.
I hate waking up early, commuting to the office, sitting through meetings, pretending to care about KPIs and presentations, and having most of my day controlled by a company.
What I actually want is to wake up whenever I want, go to the gym, travel, hike, spend time with people I care about, play games, chill at home, work on my own stuff and basically have control over my own time.
But apparently if you don’t spend most of your life working toward promotions and becoming more “productive,” you’re considered lazy or unambitious.
Fuck that.
I don’t want my entire life to revolve around my career. I just want enough money to live comfortably and enough freedom to actually enjoy being alive.
I literally just graduated and I’m already thinking, “Am I seriously supposed to do this for the next 30–40 years?”
Anyway, rant over. Hope all the other fresh grads surviving corporate life are doing okay.
